Before installing today’s beta, I tested the problematic previous version once again, and found this:
So Calculate seems to be involved - but: Since calculate was my prime suspect (since it uses mathjs) I had disabled it previously but that didn’t change anything. Most likely I should have removed / deleted Calculate completely instead of only disabeling it.
