Weird behaviour on copy

I didn’t want to start a new thread, but I’m having this same issue and removing/adding the accessibility permission doesn’t work. I DO use Alfred, but the clipboard merging isn’t on and hasn’t been.

When I try to copy text while using Safari (any page/site), the Safari window loses focus and I hear a sort of “pop” error noise. Nothing gets copied. Is this a known issue?

It’s not an issue I could identify from the description. From the fact that it’s making a sound and focus is changing, my guess is that there is some other app interacting in some way. Perhaps you could try disabling all other running apps to see if the problem continues. If it doesn’t then start re-introducing other apps until you figure out which one it is.

Failing that, a screen video showing the fault would really help.

Hi Nick, and thank you for replying. After posting this, I tried several things in hopes of reproducing the issue. The issue remained, even though I would completely quit apps (like Alfred). However, once I quit and restarted PopClip, it would work again for a time.

I’m still testing different permutations of having apps active and not, and I can’t seem to identify specifically when it begins to happen. I simply notice it the next time I’m attempting to copy text. It does continue to happen, I just haven’t figured out which app interaction is causing it yet. I’ll report back further.

EDIT: it always happens after a restart. Still checking other apps being on/off, etc.

Ok, so I discovered which app is causing the issue, I just don’t know why yet. BetterMouse is the one. I can disable BetterMouse, and PopClip works as expected, but as soon as I re-enable BM, PopClip does the diverted focus/audible error sound thing.

Ok, so it is the “Left Click Through” option under “Buttons” in BetterMouse’s settings. Basically, it allows you to click only once to select a button on inactive windows that may be out of focus on your display. Deselecting that checkbox lets PopClip to operate as expected again.

Ah wow, that’s really interesting. Thank you for your efforts to isolate it. I’m guessing BetterMouse is doing something with activating windows or changing focus that PopCLip does not expect.
