Selecting text in Safari, evoking mail extension, opens a new email with the address I set included however, neither the selected text nor the source URL are in the email body.

What email program are you using? Support may vary between mail clients.
You can perform a test in isolation by entering the following command in Terminal. It works the same way as the PopClip extension.
open "mailto:text@example.com?body=test%20text"
Does that open a new email with “test text” as the body?
Using Apple Mail and yes it works in the terminal
