Error message: "ChatGPT cannot access some of the files you selected:"

I’m running the PopClip version from SetApp and Nick Moore’s ChatGPT extension for ChatGPT Mac App6. . After highlighting some text and activating the extension, I get the error message. Here’s the troubleshooting thus far:

  1. Quit and restarted PopClip
  2. Quit and restarted ChatGPT app
  3. Logged out and back in to ChatGPT
  4. Restarted the computer
  5. Ensured PopClip was enabled in Privacy & Security>Accessibility. Deleted it from the list and granted it permission again.
  6. Deleted this preference file: com.pilotmoon.popclip.plist and restarted PopClip.
  7. Tested the extension in various apps: Drafts, Safari, Typora

I followed the instructions to enable debugging in Terminal. Here’s the result from the Console app. Any further assistance would be greatly appreciated.

There have been a lot of problems with the ChatGPT App extension. I’m going to withdraw it from availability until it can be improved to be reliable.

For now I would recommend the ChatGPT Website etxtension instead.

Thanks for the update!

hello there, I’m new here, this is my first post…

I was using the ChatGPT app extension for a few weeks and it was working as advertised, I was using it to “rewrite” text by including the rewrite prompt before my text.

It stopped working after a ChatGPT app update on jan 23rd 2025, I now get an error message from ChatGPT app mentioning that it cannot access the file I selected.

Hi @Hugo_Chevrette , welcome to the forum. I’ve merged your post with a similar one. Please see my response above.

Thank you very much for developing this extension, it is really convenient. I’m really looking forward to it quickly returning to the extension option. When is the approximate date of return?

I don’t know. I’m currently working improvements to the main PopClip app rather than on extensions. I will welcome a well-crafted pull request fixing the extension.
