macOS, Golden Gate 27.0.1 System Settings and PopClip

Hi… I’ve enjoyed PopClip for many years now.

I recently updated to Golden Gate 27.0.1 on a M1 Mac studio.

Every time I open the System Settings with PopClip installed, I get a spinning beach ball.

My CPU usage goes through the roof on Macmon or Activity Monitor.

I used AppCleaner to remove it and all its parts, and I checked it against the file list you have online.

Threw everything away… Restarted…

I also used your Terminal commands that I found on the website to remove all the parts and pieces.

Downloaded the zip file and reinstalled, and it still does it.

I noticed that when I reloaded it, from the downloaded zip file.

it does not ask me for any permissions.

And under privacy and security settings… I do not see any accessibility listing.

It also causes Klondike forever to slow way down.

Any help you can give troubleshooting this would be greatly appreciated.

I hope I posted properly. Thanks in advance… John

Hi @john1170 – oh no, that’s not good!

This is not a known issue, and it’s the first report I’ve heard of this, so it would appear to be isolated issue on your machine.

I am not able to offer an immediate solution, but here are my thoughts/questions:

  • What version of PopClip are you running?

  • Have you been using PopClip for a long time, and has this recently started occurring, or did you only recently install PopClip and it’s happened from the start?

  • You said it happens when PopClip is installed. Do you mean installed or running? What if PopClip is installed but not running? or running but with “Appear automatically” turned off?

  • Let’s see if we can dig into it a bit with more information. When CPU usage goes through the roof, which application is showing excessive CPU usage in Activity Monitor? Is PopClip, the System Settings application itself, or something else?

  • Regarding the missing accessibility permission, I guess this could be related. Ane thing I can think to try is maybe manually add PopClip to the accessibility list using the + button,

  • One other idea: try adding System Settings to PopClip’s excluded app list. Does it make any difference?

  • You mention Klondike forever (game?) slowing down. I wonder if this game could actually be indirectly the cause of the issue. What happens if you quit that game?

After upgrading to macOS 27… I had problems with my Dictation… And at the time I had pop clip installed.

I’m pretty sure I started with the App Store copy of PopClip and then upgraded from there.

I created a new user… Admin… Which fixed my dictation problem.

Once I had the new user set up is when I noticed the problem starting.

PopClip was already installed and all I did was open it.

Klondike Forever is a solitaire game that’s been around for many years… It is a universal app.

So I switched to safe boot and isolated the problem. After removing all the parts and pieces of PopClip,I.

I downloaded and and installed PopClip-2026.8.1

I just now added System Settings and Klondike Forever to the exclusion list in PopClip.

It seems to be working just fine… Sorry to bother you.
