Pasting with ⌘V sometimes pastes current selection

Hi,

This issue is very frustrating when you need to work quickly with copying and pasting lots of texts, is it going to be fixed or already abandoned? The only workaround I can use now is to exclude all the editing apps from PopClip, but this is not what I was looking for when purchasing PopClip.

Regards,

Hi @ptuchik, there isn’t a known reprodicinle issue. Can you describe in more detail your exact symptoms (how in detail I dould reproduce the fault) and also do you use a clipboard manager app?

Hi @nick when you copy something from somewhere and go to for example Sublime Text and double click a word to replace with the previously copied text with CMD+V it is randomly but frequently (maybe once in 3 tries) replaces the word with the same word you just selected and in 90% cases it remains in buffer as copied text, in 10% cases on next paste may bring the previous correct one.

The reproduce steps can be the following:

  1. Copy some text from somewhere
  2. Open any text file in Sublime Text
  3. Select a word and press CMD+V to replace
  4. If did successful select another word and do the same
  5. After 2-3 tries you will notice that the new selection was not changed
  6. Try to paste with CMD+V somewhere else, you will notice that it pastes your last selected word instead of originally copied text

@ptuchik thanks for the detailed reproduciton steps. This may be a different issue to the one originally mentioned higher in the thread you commented on. Sorry for long delay, looks I I dropped the ball on your post. Can you please confirm version number of PopClip?

Tdh issue with Sublime Text is it doesn’t support the Accessibility API for reading text so PopClip has to use the clipboard which means there is always a finite time where the selected text is on the clipboard. If you are manually pressing command V in that small interval then it will paste the last selected word. This simply can’t be eliminated.

However, workarounds:

  • Holding command while selecting will inhibit PopClip so try to get in a habit of holding the command key earlier as part of the command-V sequence.
  • Or PopClip off in Sublime Text and use the keyboard shortcut to trigger
