PopClip 2022.12 released

PopClip 2022.12 is now available on the Mac App Store, on the website downloads page, via in-app update (standalone edition only), and homebrew.

The official “what’s new” I wrote is sparse…

  • Improved compatibility with Google Docs, 1Password 8, PDF Expert 3 and Xcode 14.
  • New features for snippet creators and extension developers.
  • Bug fixes.

…but there’s lots in this release for you if you make extensions or want to make them.

I’m looking forward to telling you all about the new stuff, with posts to come in this forum. The extensions docs are already (mostly) updated, and you can read a summary of all the changes in the Changelog.

See post:

Also, look out for new Notion and Markdown to Rich Text extensions coming soon, which are enabled by this release.

Thank you for your ongoing enthusiasm about PopClip, especially to those of you who post here in the forum or send me bug reports and feature ideas.

Please do post about any things you’ve made, and feel free to ask questions.

Installing the update

Mac App Store Edition

The update is on a 7-day phased release on the Mac App Store, so you might not yet have it as an automatic update, but you can install it manually right away from PopClip’s app page.

If you are heading to the Mac App Store to install the update, please take a moment to click a star rating :star:.

Standalone Edition

If you are running the standalone PopClip (downloaded from my website), you can trigger an update by un-checking and re-checking the Check for Updates checkbox.

Please note that in this update, the standalone edition sends me crashes and anonymous usage data. This helps me keep PopClip working well, and to hunt down errors and incompatibilities with 3rd party apps. (Privacy notice.)

Homebrew

If you installed the standalone PopClip via homebrew, you can run brew update popclip.

Beta Testers

Those of you running the beta will not see a new update, but you should already have Build 4063 which is functionally the same. You will continue to receive beta updates. Or you could delete the beta an install the production release.
