I’ve been using the Instant Translate extension for a long time, and it’s fantastic. However, I realized that when I needed to translate longer text occasionally, it wouldn’t work. So recently, I decided to use Grok’s API to solve this issue. Over time, I saw that my friends were also interested, so I expanded the project to support multiple LLM models. I also added grammar checking and reply suggestions.
I first discovered PopClip in 2016, which has supported my work in many ways. Now, with AI coding, I’ve been able to bring some interesting ideas to life. It would be an honor if this project could also help others.
Thank you for your interest in InstantLingua. I am exploring support for local LLMs, but it may take some time. Please keep an eye out for plugin updates.
I just did some tests, and it’s great!
I like the idea of having the option to choose between translating or improving your text.
Because I am actually looking for a way to directly translate a text and then paste it or do like OpenAI Chat, but in a translation version.
The idea of displaying in a bubble is nice, but quickly becomes limiting, as long texts cannot be displayed, although you can paste the text elsewhere if needed.
It would really be great if this bubble could be made larger.
I would have appreciated several additional features.
The ability to have your own prompt.
The ability, like OpenAI Chat, to add the new text below the selected one for translation or improvement instead of pasting it.
Finally, the possibility to use a local LLM like Ollama. I imagine it shouldn’t be complicated to add, given the work already done.
Working locally would really be a big plus!
Thank you very much!
Using custom prompts is indeed a good idea. I’ve thought about it before, but I felt it might go against the original purpose of InstantLingua. Still, I may consider adding it in the future.
As for the bubble issue, it’s limited by PopClip itself. That’s why I added an option to automatically copy text to the clipboard, so you can check it manually through the clipboard if needed.
A local LLM is already on my roadmap, and I hope to include it in the next update.
Thank you so much for your support and for using PopClip. Please stay tuned for updates on GitHub.
A personal prompt would be a plus but not mandatory; if nothing is added, it remains in the state you provided. Regarding my idea for the function, this way classic users won’t have to ask questions
But really, the idea of copying the text below the selected text seems like a really good idea because it allows you to compare and see if the AI isn’t talking nonsense either
