The revised settings from the last beta are very welcome, vertical screen estate is no limitation anymore.
A few thoughts:
The delete option is somewhat hidden. Why not a separate column with a red symbol (as before) to the right of the entry? The interface could omit the settings button then if no settings are available.
Could the second panel (installed actions) be longer?
A search field at the beginning of the actions list would be helpful to find them quickly (yes, that many actions).
Regarding the cog wheel dropdown menu in App settings: I would prefer two separate buttons for clarity.
With regard to buttons/menu tradeoff, part of the reason for having a menu rather than buttons is that eventually I intend to offer more actions in the menu. This is just a “baseline”, reproducing existing functionality. If I were to have buttons now, then I think I would replace them with a menu in due course anyway. But I agree pretty much with your observations and I am tempted with buttons too. I have experimented with both the versions you describe! UI isn’t easy to get right..
The update mechanism is sleek and worked fine on the latest Sequoia release.
I am not familiar with Apple’s interface guidelines anymore, but wonder if the scroll bar in the panel of installed actions should be visible at the start/permanently to indicate that only a fraction of actions is displayed.
When the settings panel is open and you click the menu entry Settings again, the settings window bounces up for a moment. This is likely intended to steer the focus on the already opened window. There is a small visual glitch however, as every few times when opening the settings panel the window bounces up for a moment (see video below). I couldn’t spot any pattern however.
I have been running PopClip since DB1 and jumped on the Beta within 24 hours of its release.
I’m currently running build 5092 as I check for updates to the forums via RSS and got the new build within 24 hours of its release.
I have had zero issues PopClip version 5092 and in fact it has been more reliable as before either PopClip beta was released PopClip did not trigger 100% of the time text was selected but now it seems to do so.
Always looking forward to new features but at this point PopClip has been reliable and consistent with the updates
